Iceland, also called the Republic of Iceland, is a Nordic island country. This country is between the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. The population is about 333.000 and the area is 103.000 sqkm (40.000 sq mi), making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe.
The capital and largest city is Reykjavik in southwest of the country. North is so called “capital of the north” called Akureyri in Eyjafjordur fjord. Reykjavik and the surrounding areas and municipalities in southwest of Iceland counts 2/3 of the inhabitants of Iceland.
Iceland famous for its volcanically and geologically activities. The interior consists of a plateau characterized by sand and lava fields, mountains and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands.
The reason Iceland is not as cold as its name sounds is that it gets warm sea by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate.
Iceland was and still is a viking stronghold since 874 AD when few Norwegians fled Norway because of to high tax in Norway. The first permanent is told to be Ingólfur Arnarson but some historians says the country was settled much earlier and called Thule.
