Around Diamonds of Iceland 13 Days Family Comfort Self Drive. Drive for 10 days and stay for 11 or 12 nights – Drive along Iceland´s main road and enjoy main attractions such as the hot springs, waterfalls, icebergs on the Glacier Lagoon and glacier lake. Explore the towns along the east fjords of Iceland. Visit cozy town such as the old French Seamen´s towns of Fáskrúðsfjörður and stop by Iceland´s second capital, Akureyri. Visit the lava fields of Dimmuborgir and the hidden treasures such as Hvítserkur Arch and a volcano crater. This trip brings you all around Iceland and offers you the different colors of Iceland. The white and blue glaciers, green and black lava and bubbling brown hot springs.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Iceland – Check in at Hotel in Reykjavik.
Day 2: Drive around the Golden Circle of Iceland and stop at Thingvellir National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Gullfoss Waterfall, Geysir Hot Spring and the historical church Skálholt (approximately 140 km, 86 miles)
Day 3: Get a touch of the highlands, visit the green valleys of Þjóðsársdalur Valley with a stop at the nearby waterfall Hjálparfoss. Take a walk among the ruins of a Viking farm and enjoy the magnificent views of the volcano Hekla (approximately 200 km, 124 miles)
Day 4: Enjoy the extravagant waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss along the south coast of Iceland. Walk along the volcanic black beaches and towering rock stacks of Reynisdrangar with views of Dyrhólaey. Continue your trip towards the town of Vík in Mýrdal valley and stop at Kirkjubæjarklaustur a historical place where the Irish monks were thought to have lived until 1186. Enjoy a hike in Skaftafell National Park and view the icebergs on the Glacier Lagoon before proceeding to Höfn (approximately 345 km, 214 miles)
Day 5: Explore the towns of east fjords and stop by a waterfall in Breiðafjörður and take a look at the colorful stones in Stöðvarfjörður. Visit the Old French Seaman´s Town of Fáskrúðsfjörður and other cozy towns on the east fjords (approximately 230 km, 142 miles)
Day 6: Spend a day visiting the extravagant waterfalls of Dettifoss and Goðafoss. Visit the hot spring area of Námafjall and Krafla Volcanoes. Bath in the Nature Bath of Mývatn and walk among the lava fields of Dimmuborgir before heading to Akureyri (approximately 460 km, 282 miles)
Day 7: Drive along Eyjafjörður and visit the towns along the way. Stop by Siglufjörður also known as the Herring-Capital of Iceland and visit the turf town of Glaumbær in Skagafjorður (approximately 230 km, 142 miles)
Day 8: Stop at the arch of Hvítserkur, a piece of rock looking like a dragon in the sea. Visit the Icelandic “Fortress” used during the Viking times before exploring Vatnsnes Peninsula, home to the largest seal colony in Iceland. Stop by a seal museum before exploring the hidden crater of Bifröst (approximately 320 km, 198 miles)
Day 9: Enjoy the wonders of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Stop by towns along the peninsula, take a view of the mountain Kirkjufell and the Snæfellsnes Glacier and visit the sandy beaches and lava fields of Snæfellsnes (approximately 280 km, 173 miles)
Day 10: Visit the volcanic crater of Eldborg before heading off to the beautiful waterfalls of Hraunfoss and Barnafoss. Enjoy a walk in the hot spring area of Deildartunguhver and visit Borgarnes a town in the west of Iceland (approximately 310 km, 192 miles)
Day 11: Enjoy a day on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Take a walk among the hot spring area of Gunnuhver before taking a warm bath in the Blue Lagoon Spa (approximately 210 km, 130 miles)
Day 12: Free day or relax in the geothermal pools of Reykjavik or visit the neighboring cities.
Day 13: Departure from Iceland or extra day in Iceland
