Cultural Exceptional Iceland 10 Days Luxury Self Drive Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Iceland – Check in at Hotel
Day 2: Drive along the Golden Circle of Iceland. Visit the extravagant waterfall of Gullfoss, explore the Þingvellir National Park and walk along the hot spring area of Geysir. (approximately 170 km, 105 miles).
Day 3: Get a slight touch of the Icelandic highlands. Visit the green valleys of Þjóðsársdalur Valley with a stop at the nearby waterfall Hjálpafoss. Take a walk among the ruins of a Viking farm and enjoy the magnificent views of the volcano Hekla (approximately 150 km, 93 miles).
Day 4: Explore the south coast of Iceland and see the dramatic landscapes along the coast. Walk on the black lava beaches of Reynisfjara, view volcanoes and glaciers and walk behind one of Iceland´s most magnificent waterfalls. Hike along one of the paths in Skaftafell National Park and view first hand icebergs floating in the sea (approximately 350 km, 271 miles).
Day 5: Drive along the east fjords and visit the small fishing towns such as Seyðisfjörður and the Old French Seaman´s Town of Fáskrúðsfjörður (approximately 250 km, 155 miles).
Day 6: Visit Námafjall Hot Spring Area and Krafla Volcanoes. Take a bath in the hot spring water of Mývatn and enjoy sceneries of wild birds and flowers in this protected area. Don´t forget to enjoy a walk among the lava fields of Dimmuborgir and visit the extravagant waterfalls of the north. Get to know Akureyri, the capital of the north (approximately 395 km, 245 miles).
Day 7: Get to know the Icelandic culture. Explore the towns along Eyjafjörður and get enjoy sceneries of the country. Visit a few museums, the old turf houses and see how the old Vikings lived (approximately 210 km, 130 miles).
Day 8: Stop at the arch of Hvítserkur, a piece of rock looking like a dragon in the sea. Visit the Icelandic “Fortress” used during the Viking times before exploring Vatnsnes Peninsula, home to the largest seal colony in Iceland. Stop by a seal museum before exploring the hidden crater of Bifröst (approximately 370 km, 229 miles).
Day 9: Free day in Reykjavik, visit the neighboring cities or departure day.
Day 10: Departure from Iceland.
