FAQ - Helpful information

What is third party liability and personal accident insurance?

Third party liability insurance is included in your base insurance and the amount is set by the Icelandic law.

What is Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) that includes Theft Protection (TP)?

CDW/TP limits the renter's financial liability for damages to the vehicle, its parts and accessories, also including theft, attempted theft or vandalism, provided the vehicle is used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. All rentals are subject to a non-waivable excess, for which the customer is responsible in the event of damage, loss or theft to the vehicle during the rental.

What is Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) that includes Super Theft Protection (STP) and Front Windscreen Protection (WP)?

SCDW/STP reduces the renter's financial liability for damages to the vehicle, its parts and accessories, also including theft, attempted theft or vandalism, provided the vehicle is used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. Front Windscreen Protection (WP) waives the renter's financial liability in case of any damage to the front windscreen.

What is Sand & Ash Protection (SAP)?

SAP lowers the renter's financial liability in case of any damage to the car causing from of sand or ash. Please note that such damages are not covered by CDW/SCDW. SAP is available at the rental desk and cannot be booked in advance. We highly recommend you to buy this insurance.

Do I need to bring my credit card?

Yes, as the main driver, you must show your valid credit card to the car rental provider when you pick up your car. A “no show” shall be charged accordingly if your valid card is not provided.

What is a One-Way Rental Surcharge?

A one way rental surcharge applies if you start the rental in one location and returns the vehicle to another. Availability for one-way rentals may be limited.

What happens if I do not return the car at a rental station?

Cars must be dropped off at pick up place or a fee of at least ISK 15.000 applies, payable to the car rental provider.

Can I have additional driver?

Yes, you can. All rental contracts must be under the name of the lead driver who must be present at the time of rental and must be the main credit card holder. Additional drivers have to be registered on the rental agreement at the time of rental for them to be insured. Unregistered drivers are fully responsible for all damages while they are driving and all insurance is null and void.

Can I lease a child seat?

Yes, you can. We have safety seats for babies and children that we urge all parents to lease for their children. We have baby seat, child seat for older kids and child booster seat.

In Iceland, do you have any road assistance?

Sure. We have our RSN-Road Assistance. RSN you can pay for and it waives the towing/service fees in case of: (1) the vehicle experience a battery failure - we'll provide a jump start; (2) keys are locked inside the vehicle or if the keys are lost; (3) running out of fuel - we will deliver fuel to your location to get you on your way. If you put the wrong type of fuel into the car, we will come and help you pump it out and clean the tank. Please note that the cost of a replacement key or additional fuel costs are not included in this cover.

If I would like to travel with some tents or extra luggage, can I lease a trailer?

Yes, you can. Trailers are available on request with a limited number of cars in certain groups only. The trailer is only available in combination with a car rental.

Do I need a GPS - Global Positioning System in Iceland?

Yes, we highly recommend a use of GPS. Our GPS devices feature voice instructions in 40 languages and information on all sorts of useful places such as petrol stations, car parks and hotels.

What is My Way Audio Tours?

My Way are audio tours that are programmed into the GPS system and feature an entertaining mix of interesting stories, facts and figures, history, geography, directions and curiosa. It features the three most popular tourist routes in Iceland and cover what has traditionally been seen as Iceland's main attractions: (1) The Golden Circle; (2) The South Shore: (3) The Reykjanes Peninsula.

Can I drive any car regardless my age?

No, you can't. If you are 20-23 years old you can drive car groups A, N, O, B, L, E, C and M. If your are 23-25 years old you can drive all above car groups and car groups D, I, F, P, H, J, K and XP If you are 25 or older you can drive all above car groups and car gropus G, XE, XG, XF and XH If you are a young driver you must pay a young driver fee that applies for: Drivers of car groups A, N, O, B, L, E, C and M that are 18-19 years old; Drivers of car groups D, I, F, P, H, J, K and XP that are 20-22 years old; Drivers of car groups G, XE, XG, XF, and XH that are 20-24 years old. Drivers younger than 20 years cannot rent jeeps or vans. In any case the driver must present a valid driver's licence that has been held for a minimum of one year.
