Our Vestmannaeyjar – Westmann Islands tour includes visits to: The South Coast of Iceland – Vestmannaeyjar (Westmann Islands) – Eldheimar Volcano Museum – Colorful Lava Caves – Wild Birds- Klettshellir Cave
Our transfer bus (non-guided) takes you to the pier at Bakkafjara on the south coast (about 2 hour drive) and from there the ferry (non-guided transfer) takes another 30 minutes to reach the islands. Once there we will be greeted by a local guide and join a bus tour around Heimaey island.
During our trip, we will visit the puffin nesting area in Storhofdi and walk up to the crater of a volcano that erupted only a few decades ago as well as exploring the flora of the new lava field. This lava was mainly from the eruption in 1973.
After a lunch break we will join a boat cruise where we will see many of the wonders of the Vestmannaeyjar nature. Colourful ocean caves and thousands of seabirds. Depending on the visibility we might even see groups of whales. Before our return back to Reykjavik, we also get to visit the Eldheimar museum built on one of the houses destroyed by the eruption.
The ferry takes you back to the mainland, where our bus is waiting to take you back to Reykjavík. The return transfer (ferry and bus) is non-guided.
